I am a General Dentist, and have been practicing Dentistry since 1975, after graduating from the University of Western Ontario Dental School, London Ontario. Prior to that, I graduated from the University of Guelph with an Honours Bachelor of Science Degree. Before entering Dental School, I was working on a Master’s Degree in Physiology at the University of Western Ontario.

Robert E. Leigh, BSc, DDS – Implant Dentist in Westlock, AB T7P 2K5

Shortly after graduating from Western, I became increasingly interested in the whole process of Dental Implants, and how they could change the Dental Profession and be a benefit to patients; in particular, for those who had lost teeth, or were edentulous and wearing dentures. I recall, at the time, that dental implant treatments were viewed with skepticism by many in the dental profession. Now, they are recognized as a viable alternative and treatment option worldwide. Hundreds of thousands of dental implants are placed yearly, with excellent success rates, by thousands of dentists (General Dentists and Dental Specialists) throughout the world. Major Dental Implant Organizations have been established for Dentists, to educate and inform them about the advancements in, and benefits of, dental implant procedures. These procedures have allowed dentists and patients many more alternatives for their dental needs.

Education and Experience in Dental Implant procedures is Very Important:
Like all Dentists in Alberta, as a practicing Dentist, and in order to maintain my license, I am required by the Alberta Dental Association and College (ADA&C) to maintain an educational standard through continuing education programs. In an effort to become more proficient in general dental and dental implant procedures, throughout my career I have pursued many aspects of continuing education. Unlike many Dental Associations in other Canadian Provinces, the ADA&C does not permit Alberta Dentists to use websites or advertising to inform patients of their continuing education in associations or organizations related to Dental Implants, or Cosmetic dental treatments … or any bona fide credentials they may have received from those dental associations in pursuit for further education. However, if you contact me I will be happy to send you a copy of my Curriculum Vitae, and my credentials and experience in Dental Implant treatments and procedures. I believe that it is extremely important for patients to be informed about the qualifications and experience of the dental professional who may be placing or restoring Dental Implants. Please see the “Dental Implants” or “Dental Implant Fees” pages for the 4 Very Important Questions that a Patient should ask his or her Dentist when considering Dental Implant procedures.

My Obligation to my Patients:
I consider it an obligation to my patients to keep abreast of the most recent advancements in dentistry, and to fully inform them of my qualifications in Dental Implant procedures. All of the members of my Dental Surgical Team are Registered Dental Assistants (R.D.A.) Level II, and are members of the Association of Dental Implant Auxiliaries and Practice management (an affiliate of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists). My referral-based practice is limited to Full-time Implant Placement, Restoration, associated Bone Grafting, related care, and Teaching.

1969 Graduated with an Honours Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry. University of Guelph, Guelph, Ontario.

General:
My wife, Anita, and I, and our two sons, Austen and Evan, live on our ranch just north of Westlock. Anita is a Registered Dental Assistant (Level II) who is part of our Dental Surgical Team. Austen and Evan are both in school, and have a strong involvement in school sports and computers. My daughter, Brandy Lynn, lives and works in Victoria, B.C. And … we have a chocolate Lab named Coco. Anita and I love to travel with our two sons and their older sister. We also love to spend time on our quads, and enjoy the rural lifestyle.
Personally, I look forward to meeting and speaking with new patients who want to take advantage of the benefits afforded by the placing of Dental Implants. Please feel free to email me with your questions or contact the office to arrange for a Consultation or Second Opinion. I think you will find it well worth while.

The number of Dental Implants Dr. Leigh has placed and restored throughout his long career, his extensive background, qualifications and training in Dental Implants, and his success rate, arguably qualify him as an expert in Dental Implant procedures.
